Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation, a technique using specialised tools rather than hands to treat myofascial restrictions. It is the modern form of Gua Sha, a practice used in Chinese medicine.
The instruments conform to the body’s structure allowing multiple angles to be reached and different pressures to be applied.
It has a similar concept to myofascial release and aims to free the underlying connective tissues, restricting range of motion as a result of soft tissue dysfunction.
